Over 7,000 internally displaced people (IDPs) in Manipur have so far taken shelter in Mizoram as of 5 PM on Friday, state home department officials said.

The officials said that with the entry of 305 IDPs during the last 24 hours, the number of IDPs from the trouble-torn neighboring state, taking shelter in Mizoram rose to 7,298.

Assam border Kolasib district hosts the largest number of IDPs at 2,521, followed closely by Aizawl and Saitual district which have 2,278 and 2,246 people taking shelter in the districts respectively.

While Mizoram-Myanmar-Manipur border Champhai has 149 IDPs taking shelter in the district, south Mizoram’s Lunglei district also now has 57 IDPs taking shelter in the district.

Bangladesh-Tripura border Mamit district hosts 19 IDPs while central Mizoram’s Serchhip district and northeastern district of Khawzawl host 18 and 10 people respectively.

Meanwhile, 3 Manipur’s minority legislators of Kuki-Chin-Mizo-Zomi-Hmar called on state chief minister Zoramthanga at his official residence in Aizawl on Friday morning.

The MLAs – L.M. Khaute, KimneoHangshing and Nemcha Kipgen–thanked Zoramthanga for his ‘selfless love and concern’ fordisplaced ‘Zo’ ethnic people of Manipur and also the people of Mizoram for extending humanitarian assistance.
