Meghalaya govt recommends two more names of filmmakers to represent state at Cannes Film Festival

The Meghalaya government has recommended two more names of prominent filmmakers of the state – Commander Shangpliang and Nicholas Kharkongor to the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting to represent the state in the Cannes Film Festival to be held from May 16-27 in Cannes, Information and Public Relations (IPR) Minister, Ampareen Lyngdoh said today.
Commander Shangpliang is a filmmaker and a social worker. Nicholas Kharkongor made his directorial debut with his 2012 film Fair and Lowly. His feature films include the 2016 Mantra and the 2019 Axone.
Earlier, the Meghalaya government recommended the names of Pradip Kurbah and Dominic Sangma to the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting to represent the state in the Cannes Film Festival.
Pradip Kurbah has won 3 National Awards – first in 2013 for Ri- Homeland of Uncertainty – Best feature film in Khasi, in 2015 he won the National Award for Onaatah – Best feature film in Khasi and again in 2021 his film Iewduh won the National Award in 2 categories – Best Khasi Film and Best Audiography.
Dominic Sangma’s film Ma-Ama is the first film in the Garo language and the only Indian film to be selected in the international competition section of the Jio MAMI Film Festival, 2018.
