Sikkimese filmmaker Sandup Lepcha’s short film ‘In a Happy Place’ to be screened in New York

The film will be screened at Metrograph Cinema on May 7

In a proud moment for Sikkim and its people, Sikkimese filmmaker Sandup Lepcha (Rongkup)’s short film ‘In a Happy Place’ will be screened at Metrograph Cinema, New York on May 7.

Besides Sandup’s film, films from Thai film director Apichatpong Weerasethakul, and others would also be screened at the venue.

The event is being organized in the memory of the great musician Ryuichi Sakamoto, a press release said.
Sandup’s film had won the Async International Short Film Competition which had around 800 participants from all over the world. The film was made with zero budget and shot in and around Gangtok.

‘In a Happy Place’ features amateur child artists Maheshwari Kharka, Tanushree Chettri, Vyomeshwari Thapa, Devrath Kharka, Avdesh Pakhetra, and Harsh Agarwal.

Sakamoto was an early pioneer in electronic music genres and as a composer has won numerous Oscar, Golden Globes, Grammy, and other awards. In 1992, he scored and conducted the opening ceremony of the Barcelona Olympics.
