Meghalaya reports first Covid death from West Garo Hills

The number of actives cases are 5 in East Khasi Hills, 10 in West Garo Hills and 2 in West Jaintia Hills

Meghalaya reported its first Covid death from West Garo Hills, Health Minister Ampareen Lyngdoh informed today. The minister asked people not to panic and said that the Covid numbers in the state are very much under control and there are no signs that it would turn into a pandemic.

“We do not want public to panic. The numbers are well under control. There is no sign that this would turn into a pandemic again. But nonetheless, one death has occurred we request for the implementation of all precautionary measures. We request people to wear masks in crowded places and adhere to Covid practices so that we are in a position to contain the situation. Anybody showing signs of Covid like cough, fever, sore throat, loss of smell and taste should immediately reach the nearest testing centre. Testing centres are being made available at very block level,” health minister Lyngdoh said adding that people should wash hands and use sanitisers.
The minister said that the Death Audit Committee that is already in place, will ascertain if the death that has been reported from West Garo Hills was a case of Covid death or the person had co-morbidities.
Sharing details of the number of cases in Meghalaya, the minister said there are 5 active cases in East Khasi Hills, 10 in West Garo Hills and 2 in West Jaintia Hills.
The minister requested people to seek medical help if they are showing any signs of Covid so that lives can be saved before it is too late.
Citizens travelling from high positivity rates have been requested to take personal precautions.
The minister said that Meghalaya is prepared to handle any Covid situation.
By Monday the Meghalaya government would further update on the vaccine policy for the third dose.
