PM Modi highlights importance of sports training during Chintan Shivir of sports ministers in Manipur

A two-day ‘Chintan Shivir’ (brainstorming session) of Ministers of Youth Affairs and Sports of States and UTs began on Monday at the City Convention Centre, Imphal, in the presence of Union Sports Minister Anurag Singh Thakur.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi, in his virtual address ahead of the session, expressed happiness over the session being held in a state like Manipur, which has produced star sportspersons and brought laurels to the nation.
The prime minister emphasized the importance of focusing on infrastructural development and sports training apart from policy and programs to make India a great sporting nation.
He called upon the delegates to practice the mantra of “reflection, realization, implementation, and then action”.
He also exuded full confidence that the delegates will learn a lot from Manipur when it comes to sports.
While union sports minister Anurag Singh Thakur stressed the importance of a scientific and state-specific approach towards the development of sports.
He also sought cooperation from all concerned in making India a sports superpower’.
Highlighting that the center and states must come together for the promotion and advancement of sports, he asked the states to share their respective models, policies, and strategies so that each state can share and replicate from another for the betterment of all.
The union minister also exhorted pushing and promoting indigenous games and sports at the international level.
Manipur chief minister N. Biren Singh, taking the opportunity, sought support from the Ministry of Sports towards the venture to set up a football academy in the state.
Adding that the academy will partner with the Argentine Football Association for their support, he expressed optimism that India will qualify for the FIFA World Cup within 10–15 years.
