Landslide in Shillong-Dawki road kills two, DY CM lambasts NHIDCL

Two persons including the Rangbah Shnong of Wahlyngkhat, died and over 50 were stranded after a massive landslide hit a portion of the Shillong-Dawki Road at Rngain near Pynursla on April 14 night. The body of the Rangbah Shnong of Wahlyngkhat is yet to be found.
Following the incident, Deputy Chief Minister of Meghalaya Prestone Tynsong, who in also in-charge of PWD (Roads), visited the site and lambasted National Highways & Infrastructure Development Corporation Ltd. (NHIDCL) engineers for their alleged failure to oversee safety procedures during the construction work of the Shillong-Dawki road.
Tynsong announced that the East Khasi Hills district administration will file an FIR and a case in connection with the landslide. Tynsong also ordered the two NHIDCL engineers present at the site to bring experts from IIT-Guwahati to study the condition of the soil and topography of the Rngain stretch before proceeding with construction work. The affected the stretch of the road falls under Package II of the Shillong-Dawki road widening the project, which has been awarded to ARSS Infrastructure Projects Ltd.
While many passengers managed to reach their villages on foot, others were forced to wait for debris clearance, which is expected to take some time, officials said. Search and rescue teams are still working to remove boulders and retrieve the bodies.
