Meghalaya church leaders manhandled in Bihar

Meghalaya CM condemned the incident. Deputy Chief Minister Prestone Tynsong told reporters in Shillong that the leaders are safe and returning home

Amid reports of church leaders from Meghalaya being ill treated and ‘manhandled’ near Patna in Bihar, Meghalaya Deputy Chief Minister Prestone Tynsong allayed all apprehensions and said that the church leaders are safe and are returning home. They have been provided security.

“Everything is fine. There is no need to worry. The matter has been resolved. The church leaders are safe and coming back to Shillong”, Tynsong said briefing reporters in Shillong this evening .

The Deputy CM said that as soon as he got a call this afternoon saying that two church leaders from Meghalaya were facing some problem in Patna, he immediately called Meghalaya DGP LR Bishnoi and the Meghalaya state machinery promptly got in touch with Bihar CM, Deputy CM and the DGP and the matter has been solved.

Briefing about what had happened, Deputy CM Tynsong said that the Pastor and the church senior had gone to their mission field office in the outskirts of Patna. Some local youths were present there and they picked up a heated argument with the church leaders.

The deputy CM said that there was no physical assault or any such thing.

Earlier, Chief Minister Conrad Sangma had taken to Twitter and condemned the incident in strongest terms. Chief Minister in his tweet said, “Condemn the incident in Bihar where our elders from Presbyterian Church were manhandled by miscreants. Instructed Meg police to be in touch with Bihar police who are helping our elders, their statements are being taken to file fir against those miscreants. @officecmbihar.”
