Sikkim Assembly denies media reports saying Speaker walked out while the Session was on

The Assembly in a statement said that the House was adjourned for 10 minutes by the Chair as per Rules of Procedure and Conduct of Business

The Sikkim Assembly on Monday denied media reports saying Speaker Arun Upreti had walked out of the Assembly while the session was on.
In a statement, the Sikkim Assembly said, “The News item posted by some electronic/social media houses “the Speaker, Arun Upreti walks out amidst the session” is not in consonance with the whole proceeding of the House. It is further clarified that following the disruption, the House was adjourned for 10 minutes by the Chair under rule 319 of the Rules of Procedure and Conduct of Business in Sikkim Legislative Assembly after 10 minutes”.
The special session of the Sikkim Assembly had seen some noisy scenes today. Former Sikkim CM Pawan Chamling was removed from the House by Marshals.
The special session was summoned to discuss the expansion of the term ‘Sikkimese’ in the Finance Act, 2023. The expansion is being seen by people of Sikkim as a threat to their identity. The issue has snowballed into a big political storm.
