48 hours after 6 Naga rebel groups had called off their ongoing negotiation with Centre following the Assam Rifles raid at the residence of one of its leaders, prominent Naga tribal and civil society groups have urged upon the Centre to respect the ongoing ceasefire ground rule and refrain from such actions that can derail the peace process.

The Naga National Political Groups suspended the negotiations following the June 2 raid by the Assam Rifles at the residence of its core convener V Nagi at Jotsoma village near Kohima.

In a closed door meeting called in Dimapur yesterday, top NNPG leaders and representatives of the Naga tribal & civil society stressed on the need to continue with the ceasefire between the Centre and the NNPG.

The meeting while condemning the Assam Rifles action said that raids and negotiations cannot go hand in hand. The meeting also urged upon the NNPG’s to reconsider its decision to suspend the ongoing peace talks.
