K Therie resigned on moral grounds after the humiliating performance of the NPCC in the recently held Nagaland Assembly elections

The AICC on Friday appointed former Nagaland Pradesh Congress Committee (NPCC) vice president, S Supongmeren Jamir as the new party chief after K Therie stepped down as the president from the party on moral grounds.

Congress MP and general secretary KC Venugopal in a statement said, “S Supongmeren Jamir has been appointed as president of Nagaland Congress with immediate effect. The party appreciates the contributions of the outgoing PCC president Kewekhape Therie.”

As per sources, K Therie tendered his resignation days ago, but the Congress high command didn’t accept the letter in view of the urban local body elections (ULB).

K Therie resigned on moral grounds after the humiliating performance of the NPCC in the recently held Nagaland Assembly elections.

Speaking to Northeast Live, S. Supongmeren Jamir expressed his gratitude to the state and the central leadership for the opportunity.

The newly elected party chief, sharing his vision, said that his priority would be teamwork.

Reacting to the Congress party’s performance in recent years, the party chief said, “Recently I faced the elections, and we came to know that there are a lot of supporters and lovers of the Congress policy, and they want to bring the Congress back into power. So as a team leader for the state leadership, the AICC, and the congress workers have to go to the grassroot level and definitely coordinate at the grassroot level, then Congress will come to power again.”

S. Supongmeren further informed that within a day or two he will go to Delhi and meet the central leadership.

In the recently held Assembly elections, Supongmeren Jamir lost to NDPP’s Imkongmar from the Mongoya seat by a margin of 1042 votes.
