Parts of Shillong are still under curfew following two consecutive days of clashes following a brawl has left Shillong reeling with fresh reports of arson being reported from Shillong along the Guwahati-Shillong Highway near the Naya Bunglow area, where heavy duty lorry has been set on fire by miscreants.

The district administration has imposed night curfew in entire Shillong. East Khasi Hills district Magistrate PS Dkhar taking stock of the tense situation prevailing in Shillong issued a statement enforcing curfew from 10pm Friday to 5 am Saturday in Shillong until further orders.

The Army also staged a flag march late night in the troubled area. However, the residents of the trouble-torn locality of Mopthran expressed that the state government is not doing enough to quell the situation.

Meanwhile, Shillong City Superintendent of Police Stephen Rynjah has been injured in the stone pelting incident at the Mopthran locality. In the mean time, police have arrested one person believed to be the main accused in the violence.

It all started on Thursday evening when a clash broke out between the police and an unruly mob suspected to be drivers and conductors of the Shillong Town Public Transport System (STPTS) following an altercation that took place between one of the STPTS driver and a resident of the Mothpran locality.
