Blood crisis hits Tripura, over 100 doctors and health workers donate blood

CM Manik Saha had earlier appealed the health workers to donate blood amid blood crisis in the state

Almost 100 doctors and other healthcare workers from the Agartala Government Medical College (AGMC) came forward to donate blood during a voluntary blood donation camp on Saturday in order to help the severe blood shortage in the state’s public hospitals and blood banks.

The blood donation camp was organised by the Agartala chapter of the Indian Society of Critical Care Medicine (ISCCM) in response to the appeal of Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha to come forward and donate blood to overcome the crisis as the routine blood donation camps could not be held during the last one month in the state due to the assembly election, which concluded with the declaration of the results on March 2.

Chief Minister Manik Saha was the chief guest at the blood donation camp, where he praised the initiative as a large number of doctors and health workers donated blood.

Manik Shah also thanked the doctors and health staff for coming forward and voluntarily participating in the noble cause of donating blood to save lives, especially those of patients in critical condition.

He added that along with AGMC at many other places such blood donation camps are being held which will help to keep a balance in the supply and demand of blood.

According to one of the health workers, there is a major blood shortage in the state’s hospitals.

Dr. Tushar Majumder, secretary of the ISCCM Agartala chapter, expressed that through the blood donation camp, over 70 to 100 bottles of blood are expected.

“Due to the election, blood donation could not take place, which created a huge crisis. On the appeal of the CM, we have organised this blood camp. Through this blood donation, 70 to 100 bottles of blood are expected.” Dr. Tushar Majumder said.
