AAPSU calls off proposed March 14 bandh

The apex students body took this decision after it's representatives met Chief Minister Pema Khandu and Home Minister Bamang Felix

The All Arunachal Pradesh Students Union (AAPSU) has decided to call off it’s proposed bandh on March 14. The apex students body took this decision after it’s representatives met Chief Minister Pema Khandu and Home Minister Bamang Felix to discuss the 2 demands:

1: Booking the perpetrators behind the vandalization of AAPSU office during the rally by the PAJSC calling for declaring null and void the APPSC exams from 2014-2022

2. Alleged government mishandling of affairs regarding the APPSC fiasco.

Regarding the first point, SP (Itanagar Capital Region) Jimmy Chiram spoke on behalf of the Arunachal Pradesh Home Minister Bamang Felix about the actions taken by the government and progress made into it. SP Chiram informed,”We received an FIR and registered on Feb 21. A Special Investigation Team (SIT) was constituted to handle the case since it is of sensitive manner led by an SDPO (constituted on Feb 22) and it consisted of 5 members. After that during investigation we accessed all the CCTV footages nearby and through local sources, we did lot of investigation and finally we detained 4 people and further probe is underway and we will try to conclude it as soon as possible.”

While clarifying on the 2nd point, Arunachal Pradesh Home Minister Bamang Felix admitted that there was a lapse as far as the government is concerned. Referring to the circumstances that led to the uncalled for situation on February 17 and 18, Bamang Felix said,”In Feb 10 we had decided that on 17th Feb there will be a swearing in of the full commission. And also had decided to meet again on February 12.”

Revealing as to what went wrong, Home Minister Felix said,”But, I want to say today that there was a mistake which is that minutes of the meeting which took place on February 12th came out late. This is what APPSU is questioning and I admit that minutes of the meeting came out late.”

The Home Minister further said that in the meeting it was decided that swearing in ceremony of the new APPSC would be allowed to happen peacefully.

The government had also assured,”whatever their (AAPSU, ANSU, PAJSC) demands are, we will bring it into a written form and the govt will forward to the full commmission. The decision will be taken there, because the jurisdiction of taking some decisions lies with the authorities of the public service commission.”

Briefing further on today’s meeting, Bamang Felix appealed to all the groups to come forward and work on finding a solution to the issue.

In this regard he said,”Mistakes do happen and Chief Minister also conveyed everyone must move towards a solution. We must all fight together for a permanent solution.”

Felix reiterated that there can be a solution only through dialogues. He affirmed,”We have to sit together and discuss as to how to take the state forward because bandh call cannot be the solution. Solution can be achieved only by sitting across the table.”

“I request all the leaders of the AAPSU to call off the bandh and let us work out aformula to all those problems,” Felix added.
