Fact-finding team of Congress and Left Front attacked in Tripura

The fact-finding team of the CPI-M and Congress that had come to Tripura to take stock of the post-poll violence was allegedly attacked by miscreants today at Nehalchandranagar in Sepahijala district of Tripura.

Amidst the ongoing post-election violence in Tripura, a seven-member parliamentary team visited the BJP-ruled state on Friday to oversee the incidents of political hostility and talk to the affected people who were allegedly targeted by ruling party goons.

The members of the parliamentary team include P.R. Natarajan, Ranjita Ranjan, A. A. Rahim, and Abdul Khalique, all Lok Sabha members; Bikash Ranjan Bhattacharya, Vinay Viswam, and Elaram Karim, all Rajya Sabha members.

Speaking to the media, AICC spokesperson Ajay Kumar alleged that miscreants were backed by the ruling BJP.

The team that was attacked includes Congress MP Abdul Khalique, Dr. Ajay Kumar, AICC general secretary in charge of Tripura, CPIM state secretary and MLA Jitendra Chowdhury, Congress MLAs Gopal Chandra Toy and Birajit Sinha, who is also the Tripura PCC president, and a few other leaders.

Meanwhile, two other teams of MPs have visited several other affected areas due to violence, in which former CM Manik Sarkar was also present.

The locals from 4-Barjala constituency speaking to Northeast Live alleged that following the swearing-in ceremony of Manik Saha led BJP government, the BJP workers from Purb Chandmari area attacked the houses of the locals. The locals have expressed fear.

It may be mentioned here that the eight-member team had arrived in Tripura to take stock of the post-poll violence and thereby submit a report and raise the issue in the Parliament, which convenes on March 13.
