Meghalaya: Mukul Sangma in talks with Congress, VPP; bats for United Opposition

According to Mukul Sangma, "that will enable us to be effective as opposition, constructive as opposition and deliver what is expected through this whole collective exercise that we do."

Meghalaya TMC leader and former Chief Minister Mukul Sangma is in talks with the leadership of the Congress and the Voice of the People’s Party to form an Unified Opposition in the assembly.

If we go by the numbers, the TMC has 5 seats in it’s kitty, while the Congress won 5 seats and the debutant VPP won 4 seats.

Mukul Sangma highlighted the efforts to form an United Opposition and said,”We have 3 different groups here the TMC the INC the VPP we have our own respective identity as political parties. So, there is no question of diluting that. And, while saying so the role of the opposition as we synchronize and synergize our efforts collectively towards achieving our purpose, fulfilling our purpose.”

According to Mukul Sangma, “that will enable us to be effective as opposition, constructive as opposition and deliver what is expected through this whole collective exercise that we do.”

“Now, do we see a divided opposition? I dont think so. What do you mean by identity? How will it dilute? people have given mandate to different political parties,” Mukul Sangma added.

In fact Mukul Sangma drew the analogy of football, while pointing out that different players play for the same team. “It’s how you dribble and ensure that the team ultimately wins. That’s how we will work,” said Sangma.

Speaking on the series of developments about giving shape to the joint opposition, Mukul Sangma said that a number of deliberations have already taken place between the TMC and the Congress.

Sangma said,”We were supposed to meet day before yesterday and since that was impromptu we could not meet. But, we 2 parties have already met-the TMC and the Congress and we will do so. It is just the beginning, ok. Have some patience.”

Not only this, Mukul Sangma also came out blazing against the BJP for joining the NPP led MDA 2.0 since the Saffron party had levelled corruption charges against the Conrad Sangma government in the previous regime.

Mukul Sangma without mincing words said,”Now if they (BJP) say ok there is a need to have a regime change because of reasons which they indicate, the reason being the issue of corruption. Now on the issue of corruption if they have been so rhetoric and suddenly they realizes that they didnt have the numbers so they compromises and surrenders is not something which is accepted by the people and even by political parties like us.”

If that was not all, Mukul Sangma also alleged that the party (BJP) does not realize the responsibility of being a political party which is governing the whole nation. Sangma said,”At the same does not they realize the huge amount of resposnsibility that they being the political party who is governing this great nation and also BJP must be reminded of the fact that none other than the Honourable Prime Minister himself have promised to the people of this great nation, that come what may be there will be zero tolerance against corruption.”
