Meghalaya Govt formation: BJP demands 2 Cabinet berths for both its MLAs

BJP candidates AL Hek and Sanbor Shullai both won the elections this time. Hek and Shullai have served as ministers in the outgoing Conrad govt
The Meghalaya BJP is demanding 2 cabinet berths in the Conrad Sangma government 2.0. Meghalaya BJP president Ernest Mawrie, said that it will be good if both the party MLAs – AL Hek and Sanbor Shullai are inducted into the Meghalaya cabinet that would be sworn in on March 7.
” From our party side, we are requesting to CM designate Conrad Sangma that if both the leaders are inducted we will be more happy. If both are inducted it will be good because both the MLAs are senior, AL Hek has already become a 6-time MLA, and Sanbor Shullai is also a 4-time MLA and was an MDC for 5 consecutive times. Both the leaders are our (BJP) senior leaders,” Mawrie said adding that the final decision will, however, be taken by the central leadership.
It may be mentioned that AL Hek had served as the Health and Family Welfare Minister from March 9 2018 till July 28, 2021 in the outgoing Conrad Sangma government. Subsequent to this, Hek was appointed as Advisor to Chief Minister Conrad Sangma on August 6, 2021.
After Hek’s exit from the cabinet, BJP MLA from South Shillong, Sanbor Shullai was sworn-in as a new Cabinet Minister on July 27, 2021.
This time the Meghalaya government would be formed by NPP-BJP-HSPDP and two Independent MLAs. NPP had won 26 seats, BJP and HSPDP 2 each. This will be the second consecutive term as the Meghalaya Chief Minister for 45 year old Conrad Sangma.
