Polling officer dead, several injured in accident in Meghalaya

A polling officer died while several other polling officials and security personnel were injured in an accident while they were on their way to Photamati.

As per inputs, it is learnt that the polling party was heading towards 44/8 Jangrapara LP School of 44 Raksamgre assembly constituency in West Garo Hills when the vehicle overturned on the road.

It is reported that one polling officer was seriously injured while other polling officials and security personnel sustained minor injuries. The seriously injured officer died on way to a hospital in Guwahati.

Meanwhile, other injured were immediately shifted to the nearest hospital Tikrikilla CHC from where two polling officers have been referred to a better medical facility in Goalpara.

Polling materials and Electronic Voting Machines (EVM) have been secured by the concerned Sector Magistrate in the presence of the CAPF and taken to the concerned Polling Station guarded by Central Armed Police Forces (CAPF) to ensure the transparency of the entire electoral process.

Polling for the 59 Assembly seats in Meghalaya will be held tomorrow. Polling will take place in 3,419 booths to decide the fate of 369 candidates in fray.

A total of 119 companies of the Central Armed Police Force have been deployed across the state for the elections.

The counting of votes will take place on March 2.
