Conjoined twins successfully separated by a team of doctors in Mizoram. Babies are under observation
For the first time in Mizoram, conjoined twins were successfully operated upon by the doctors at Zoram Medical College (ZMC), Falkawn on February 22. The operation was jointly performed by multiple medical professionals. The medical team was led by Dr. John Lalliandinga, Associate Professor of Surgery, ZMC, and Pediatrics Surgeon, ZMC, Plastic Surgeon, a General surgeon, and an Anesthesiologist within 3 hours.
The conjoined twins were born on February 9, 2023, in Lawngtlai District, Mizoram. The newborns shared a single liver and are joined at the chest and abdomen. Both twins are currently monitored at ZMC’s Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU). The babies are doing well after the surgery.
