The Home Ministry has alerted Assam about the gathering of ULFA-Independent cadres across the border in Nagaland and Arunachal Pradesh, waiting to enter the state and strike at an opportune time.

The alert said NSCN-Khaplang militants too have joined the ULFA-Independent in a bid to carry out joint attacks inside Assam. The two rebel groups are engaged in extortion activities in the tea garden areas in Assam.

The Home Ministry has also noted another sensational development in the insurgency front in the region. It said the little-known Kamatapur Liberation Organization and NDFB(S) have recently met and decided to target the Assam Police and CRPF around Rupshi areas.

The rebels have mooted these plans as they have not been successful in carrying out extortion activities because of vigil by security forces. The exhaustive Home Ministry alert also noted that the rebel platform United National Liberation Front of Western South east Asia has been divided into two fronts—western and eastern.

While the ULFA (Independent), NDFB, KLO, Garo National Liberation Army and HNLC are part of the Western Front, the PLA, NSCN (K), PREPAK, NLFT and ATTF are part of the Eastern Front.
