“I see that NPP is heading towards getting absolute majority and we are confident that we will get”, said CM Sangma after filing nominations

The National People’s Party (NPP) president and Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma today filed his nomination to contest the upcoming Assembly elections in the state from the South Tura constituency.

CM Sangma filed his nomination before the Returning Officer Saljong R Marak at DC office in Tura.

Talking exclusively to Northeast Live after filing his nomination, CM Conrad Sangma said, “We never take anybody for granted and so we will alaways ensure that we prepare ourselves as much as possible and make sure that we fight well. Hence in that political scenario, I see that NPP is heading towards getting absolute majority and we are confident that we will get.”

CM Sagma further said,”Our party is moving forward with the development work that the party has done over the past five years and the work that has happened in various sectors, and now that the foundation has been laid, it is time to take things to the next level, and the continuity is important to ensure that we are able to achieve those goals that we have in the future.”

Asked whom does he think will be his main opponent, CM Sangma replied saying, “It all depends on the constituency. It is based on the area wise.”

Prior to filing his nomination, CM Conrad Sangma visited the resting place of his father, Purno A Sangma, along with his wife.

CM Conrad Sangma will be contesting against BJP’s Bernard Marak, UDP’s John Leslee Sangma, TMC’s Richard Mrong Marak and Brenzield Ch Marak of Congress.

Meghalaya Deputy Chief Minister Prestone Tynsong, Thomas A Sangma, E Samling Malngiang were among the NPP leaders who have filed their nomination for the upcoming polls.

Meghalaya will go to polls on February 27. The counting of votes will be held on March 2, 2023.
