Anyone who wishes to enter Mizoram can obtain temporary ILP, temporary stay permit and ILP exemption certificate through the new portal - ilp.mizoram.gov.in/.
Mizoram home minister Lalchamliana inaugurated the “Revised Online Inner Line Permit (ILP) Portal Phase-I” to facilitate people from outside to obtain the ILP even before entering the state.
Anyone who wishes to enter Mizoram can obtain a temporary ILP, temporary stay permit, and ILP exemption certificate through the new portal – ilp.mizoram.gov.in/.
Online applications can be obtained by the applicants after approval of the state home department and can be downloaded after payment of requisite fees online.
Earlier, the ILP could be obtained only from the Mizoram Houses in other states, the lone Lengpui airport near Aizawl, and entry points from other states by manual method.
Waiting for a long period at these places often caused immense inconvenience to the applicants and some of the temporary ILPs even expired while entering the state.
While businessmen and manual laborers would require to enter Mizoram only through local sponsors, tourists would not require to have sponsors.
The ILP system had been in force for the past 150 years as was enshrined in the Bengal Eastern Frontier Regulations, 1873 which was adopted by the Parliament, and the historic Mizo Accord of 1986 provided that it would continue to remain in force to safeguard the tribal community in the state.
Under the 1873 regulation, anyone entering Mizoram needs to have the ILP and cannot enter the state without it.
One has to pay Rs 150/- for obtaining a week-long ILP, and Rs 200/- for a month, while he or she has to pay Rs 2,000 for six month stay and Rs 20,000/- for 2 years stay.
The home minister said that the new online portal would help the people who want to enter the state and also eases the workload of the government employees assigned to issue ILPs to the prospective entrants of the state.
