TMC announces manifesto in poll bound Meghalaya; implementation of MRSSA, ILP, Border issue tops agenda

In terms of governance the TMC in it's manifesto said it will for a government of the people, by the people and for the people of Meghalaya.

The Trinamool Congress today announced it’s election manifesto for poll bound Meghalaya. Former Chief Minister Mukul Sangma, TMC general secretary Abhishek Banerjee, Meghalaya TMC president Charles Pyngrope as well as other top leaders of the party were present during the announcement of a slew of promises.

The Meghalaya TMC has published 10 pledges for the upcoming assembly elections which include:

QUALITY EDUCATION FOR CHILDREN
ROBUST CIVIC AMENITIES FOR RESIDENTS
MEGHALAYA’S GLORY: MUSIC, SPORTS, CULTURE & TOURISM
HONOUR TO TRADITIONAL INSTITUTIONS & SACRED LAND

Besides the TMC has also laid emphasis on a host of key issues which include- implementation of Meghalaya Resident’s Safety and Security Act (MRSSA), introduction of Village Administration Bill, revoking MoU signed with Government of Assam on Border Issue, setting up of an expert committee to study and resolve the demand for implementation of the Inner line Permit (ILP) besides others.

In terms of governance the TMC in it’s manifesto said it will for a government of the people, by the people and for the people of Meghalaya.

The TMC manifesto said, “We will form a government of the people, by the people and for the people of Meghalaya which is not controlled by external forces: Meghalaya TMC will ensure that the reigns of the state are not surrendered to the external forces. The government will be of the people, by the people and for the people, which will pledge its allegiance to Meghalaya rather than to forces sitting in New Delhi or Guwahati. Meghalaya will be run by the sons and daughters of the soil to ensure holistic development of all.”

Besides the TMC has also promised to implement the Meghalaya Resident’s Safety and Security Act (MRSSA) across the state.

The TMC said it will be implemented to check illegal immigration in the state and empower the traditional headmen. To achieve this facilitation centres at all strategic locations will be set up in due course of time.
The TMC in it’s manifesto has also promised that the Border MoU signed with the Government of Assam will be revoked and police checkposts will be set up at all strategic border areas.

Not only this the TMC has also promised to set up an expert committee to study and resolve the the demand for implementation of the Inner line Permit (ILP) in the State. The TMC said that the Committee will be set up in due consultation with all stakeholders and organisations regarding the introduction of ILP, and decide the way forward in the best interests of the residents.

The TMC has also promised for the formation of a Vigilance Committee as part of it’s mission on Zero Tolerance for Corruption. The Vigilance Committee will be formed to ensure timely social audits for all the Government departments and undo the damage caused by wide-scale corruption in the state.

Apart from this, the TMC has also promised for repealing the Meghalaya Meghalaya Regulation of Gaming Act, 2021. The TMC said that the act will be repealed through proper legislation, release of official notification, and therefore nullifying all provisional licences to casinos. It will be ensured that legalised traditional forms of gaming such as Teer continue as per the provisions of the law.

The TMC has so far announced 52 poll candidates for the Feb 27 Meghalaya Assembly elections.
