Arunachal CM Pema Khandu extends greetings on Donyi Polo Day

Donyi Polo Day is the day when the the Tani and other Tibeto-Burman people of Arunachal Pradesh pray to the Sun and the Moon for well-being, health, prosperity and happiness
Arunachal Pradesh Chief Minister Pema Khandu have extended his best wishes to the people of the state on the auspicious occasion of ‘Donyi Polo Day’.
Taking to Twitter, CM Khadu wrote, “Sun and Moon are the source of our existence. They give us eternal strength and manifest wisdom, truthfulness, enlightenment and selflessness. May they shine on us in all glory and keep us in their blessings! My finest greetings to all on Donyi-Polo Day.
Celebrated with traditional zest and religious zeal, predominantly by the people belonging to the Tani and other Tibeto-Burman peoples of Arunachal Pradesh, prayers are offered to the Sun and the Moon Gods seeking their blessings for a happy and prosperous life and to keep everyone away from ill-health and evil.
‘Donyi’ means the Sun and ‘Polo’ means the Moon. The day is celebrated to protect their faith from the onslaught of modernity and other modern day evils.
Donyi-Polo is considered to be the epitome of wisdom, enlightenment, right conscience, truthfulness, and selflessness. Aware people are called Donyi-Polo Ome, which means ‘children of truth’. Elders are regarded as Donyi-Polo Abu, representatives of the truth.
