Five people including a woman from Myanmar killed in Mizoram road mishap

The vehicle tumbled down 150 feet from the road killing 5 people and injuring a 15-momth old baby

Five persons including a woman were killed and three others including a 15-month baby were injured when a maxicab ferrying passengers between Mizoram-Myanmar border Zokhawthar village and Aizawl rolled over a steep cliff near Champhai town on Friday morning. The vehicle was carrying people from Myanmar.

Police said that the maxicab, coming from Aizawl towards Zokhawthar village met with accident near Chhungte hamlet. The vehicle rolled down over 150 feet from the road killing 5 people including a woman. The woman’s 15-months old daughter was injured in the accident.

The driver Lallunghnema (36) of Zokhawthar village was among those killed in the mishap.

Ginsuankhup (32) of Sialtui village, Myanmar, Mungsiandawng (37) of Pakzang village, Myanmar, Parthai (30) of Kawilam village, Myanmar and Tialliancheuva (37) of Chichai village, Myanmar were killed on the spot while the driver died after being taken to the Champhai district hospital.

Except for the driver, all the dead bodies have been sent to Myanmar after doctors in Champhai district hospital conducted postmortem examination, police said.

Those injured, two males and one female – Nangsuanmang (21) of Sialtui village, Myanmar, Philemona (20) of Zokhawthar, Champhai district, and Esther Lalmuankimi (15 months) of Kawilam village (daughter of Parthai), Myanmar, were being treated at the Champhai district hospital.

Police suspected that the driver must have dozed off leading to the accident as the mishap occurred at around 4.40 AM.
