Meghalaya polls 2023: Cong finalizes names of 40 candidates; list includes doctors, engineers and 8 women

The Meghalaya Congress has finalised the names of 40 candidates for the upcoming 2023 assembly elections. Northeast Live has accessed the full list of 40 candidates, which mainly includes new faces, as most of the ‘Old Guards’ in the party have already jumped ship and joined TMC, NPP and other parties.
The list of the 40 candidates will be sent to the All India Congress Committee (AICC) for the final approval.

The list includes 14 out of the 24 seats in Garo hills and 26 candidates out of the 36 seats in Khasi and Jaintia Hills. The list also includes names of 10 leaders who were MLAs before and also names of 6 MDCs.

Informing this, Meghalaya Congress president Vincent Pala said that the names of candidates for the remaining 20 seats will be identified and finalised soon. The Congress will be finalizing the rest of the 20 candidates for Khasi, Jaintia and Garo hills in the next phase.

Pala added that out of the 40 candidates, 8 are women candidates, who are highly qualified and hard working. Besides, 6 engineers would also be in the fray this time.

While slamming the Conrad Sangma government on various fronts including health, education, infrastructure, Vincent Pala said that his party has positioned the candidates keeping in mind the state of affairs in these sectors.

Vincent Pala said that the Congress has a line up of expertise to fight and face the elections, with the sole motto of ‘Making a Change.’

“All (candidate) are fresh and have a clean image. So we appeal to all voters of Meghalaya that You give us a chance. Chance means absolute majority. Absolute majority will give us stability, we can protect our people,” Pala said.

Apart from this the Meghalaya Congress President said that the only way is to make a change, and the “Congress is the only alternative.”
