Former chief minister Tarun Gogoi has refuted Assam Parliamentary Affairs minister Chandramohan Patowary’s revelations that the former chief minister in a cabinet decision in 2014 had decided to grant citizenship

Former chief minister Tarun Gogoi has refuted Assam Parliamentary Affairs minister Chandramohan Patowary’s revelations that the former chief minister in a cabinet decision in 2014 had decided to grant citizenship to Hindu Bangladeshis.

Reacting to this the former chief minister said that the papers which Patowary had presented to substantiate his claims clearly mentions that no such decision was made by the cabinet.

Instead the party had voiced for citizenship to Indians who were separated during partition. Taking a dig at Chandramohan Patowary , the ex-chief minister said that the government was trying to mislead the people of the state and was trying to divert the issue.

This bitter war of words comes at a time when the state is witnessing uproar over the Centre’s move to introduce the Citizenship (amendment) Bill 2016.
