Young Mizo Association & govt intensifies War on Drugs in Mizoram; huge quantity of heroin seized

Two persons – Lalsiamchhunga (23) and Lalchhandama (22), both from Sialhawk village in northeastern Khawzawl district were arrested.
The participation of the civil society in Mizoram to eradicate drugs menace is indeed commendable and this has also set an example for the entire Northeast as well as the nation. The Central Committee of the Young Mizo Assocation has joined hands with the Zoramthanga government in the war against drugs.
And, this has definitely yielded results as a joint team of the Mizoram Excise and Narcotics department and the Central Anti Drugs Squad of the YMA, in an operation recovered a huge consignment of heroin weighing 4.26 Kg, from 2 different locations in capital Aizawl. It has been estimated that the market value of the consignment is around Rs 93 lakh in the local market.

Mizoram Excise Dept thanked the cooperation extended to the department by the CADS, YMA members and the general public in combatting the drug menace.
It may be mentioned that the Mizoram government (Police and Excise and Narcotics departments) and the central committee of the Young Mizo Association (YMA), had inked an agreement in August 2016 to jointly combat drug menace in the state.
Then Minister for Excise and Narcotics and Home R Lalzirliana, had said firm and decisive action would be taken against drug traffickers.
As per reports, the YMA volunteers, while incurring huge expenses, had never asked for financial assistance from the government in combating drugs menace. However, the state government had sanctioned Rs 30 lakh to the central committee of the YMA.
