Sikkim wins its first Ranji Trophy match against Manipur on home turf

It was a historic win for Sikkim and a proud moment for the Sikkimese as the state won its first Ranji Trophy match in its home turf against Manipur today at the Sikkim Cricket Association of (SICA) ground, at Rangpo.

The Sikkim team defeated Manipur team by 8 wickets.

Nilesh Lamichaney hit a half-century in today’s Ranji Trophy match against Manipur.

Lamichaney scored 74 runs and was named Man of the Match. He became the first cricketer from Sikkim to score a half-century in the home ground and also the first local player to receive the Man of the Match title in Ranji Trophy.

It may be mentioned that for the first time, Sikkim is hosting three Ranji Trophy matches with three northeast teams: Mizoram, Manipur, and Arunachal Pradesh.

The first match was played between Sikkim and Manipur which began on December 13, 2022 and ended today.

After it’s match with Manipur, hosts Sikkim will face Mizoram and Arunachal Pradesh in subsequent games to be played at the SCA Ground in the coming days.

Addressing the media, President of Sikkim Cricket Association, Lobzang G Tenzing said that it is an historical day for Sikkim.

Notably, Sikkim made its way into Ranji Trophy and other premier domestic cricket tournaments in 2018.

Sikkim, on the other hand, had been playing at neutral venues due to a lack of a cricket ground.
