Mizoram: Tetra Pak cartons recycled to make benches

The benches are crafted from composite sheets made of recycled post-consumption beverage cartons.

Innovation and transformation has ushered a new era for the human civilization. With modern day innovations things have changed to a considerable extent. Wooden, iron or plastic benches in parks, schools, offices or anywhere else are being used, but, now Mizoram is now on the spotlight for introducing benches made of recycled paper based Tetra Pak cartons.

Governor Hari Babu Kambhampati unveiled the items and highlighted about the nation’s commitment to the realization of Sustainable Development Goals (SDG)s and the LIFE Campaign at COP 27. Besides, the Mizoram Governor cited the commitment of India in minimizing waste and recycling the waste to achieve the vision of becoming a circular economy.

The benches are crafted from composite sheets made of recycled post-consumption beverage cartons. These benches are very sturdy, water-resistant (not waterproof) as well as termite and pest-proof.
Meanwhile, using such a technology for preparing certain items can replace the use of wood or plywood thereby helping in preventing felling of trees and conserve the nature. Thus recycling can go a long way in preserving the ecosystem.
