CPI-M workers gheraoed the Tripura Police Headquarter demanding the police return the body of the party worker who died in yesterday’s clashed to the family
The CPI-M in Tripura has launched a scathing attack on Deputy Chief Minister Jishnu Dev Varma. CPI-M secretary Jitendra Chowdhury has directly accused the Deputy CM of being the mastermind behind the yesterday’s violence at Charilam in Sepahijala district yesterday where one CPI-M worker died.
Accusing Debbarma and his party of inciting violence and plunging the state into anarchy and lawlessness, Chowdhury said, “This is happening day in and day out in Tripura. There is no rule of law, no democratic order in Tripura, Constitution is totally defunct.”
Meanwhile, CPI-M workers staged protest in front of the Tripura Police Headquarter and alleged that the police refused to hand over the body of the CPI-M worker who lost his life in the violent clashes yesterday. Jitendra Chowdhury alleged that the police resorted to such a step only to cover up their inaction and cowardliness. It may be mentioned that family members of the slain CPI-M worker as well as party workers had decided to take the body into their custody after the post-mortem for cremation. However, as per the CPI-M workers the body was taken away by the police instead of handing it over to the family members and the party workers.
The CPI-M leaders further alleged that yesterday’s attack was carried out in connivance with the police. It was a glaring example of the fact that democracy has in the state is dead.
