Meghalaya Regional Committee on Border Row Meets in Ri Bhoi

Meeting chaired by DCM Prestone Tynsong discusses two areas in Ri Bhoi district for second phase of boundary settlement

A meeting of traditional headmen, local legislators and police and district administration officials was held on Wednesday in Ri Bhoi to discuss the border areas in the district along Assam-Meghalaya border that are in dispute with Assam. The meeting was chaired by Meghalaya Deputy Chief Minister Prestone Tynsong

The meeting was held at Ri Bhoi to examine the second phase of boundary settlement in the remaining four areas of differences in Ri Bhoi District.

Speaking to the media after the meeting, Dy CM Tynsong said, “The main purpose of the meeting was to discuss thoroughly with the traditional heads before the commencement of the second phase of border settlement along the interstate border between Assam and Meghalaya. We are trying to collect land documents and other supporting documents so that the claims are strongly supported in the second phase of border settlement.”

There are four remaining areas of differences only in Ri Bhoi that need to be settled in the second phase of boundary settlement between Assam and Meghalaya. But today’s meeting discussed two areas of difference — Block-II which fall under Hima Khyriem Syiemship and Deshdoomreah under Hima Mylliem Syiemship. The other two areas of Nongwah Mawtamur and Borduar will be examined and discussed in the coming days.

The meeting was attended by Nongpoh legislator, Mayral Born Syiem, Jirang legislator, Sosthenes Sohtun, Mawhati legislator, Dasakhiatbha Lamare, representative from KHADC, Ri Bhoi Deputy Commissioner, Arpit Upadhayay, Ri Bhoi Superintendent of Police, Giri Prasad and traditional heads of Hima Mylliem and Hima Khyriem.
