Meghalaya govt extends ban on Mobile Internet

Meghalaya: Conrad Sangma government closely monitoring law and order situation after Mukroh incident. Govt takes steps to prevent violence.

The Meghalaya government has extended the ban on mobile internet and data services of all service providers for another 48 hours, to prevent any further law and order situation especially after the Mukroh firing incident. The decision will come into effect from 10: 30AM this morning.

The order will be effective in 7 districts of Meghalaya which include- West Jaintia Hills, East Jaintia Hills, East Khasi Hills, Ri-Bhoi, Eastern West Khasi Hills, West Khasi Hills and South West Khasi Hills district.

It may be mentioned that the Meghalaya government had imposed ban on mobile internet and data services after the Mukroh firing incident in West Jaintia Hills, where 6 persons had lost their lives including a Forest Guard from Assam. Subsequent to this , violence were reported from different parts of Shillong which included a few incidents of arson.
