Geto Sora, a 7-year-old from Arunachal Pradesh, became the youngest badminton player from the state to win an international badminton championship making the state and the country proud.

Sora clinched the U-9 boys singles title in the Yonex-Singha-BTY Championships 2022.

The event was held at the Ban Thong Yod Badminton School in Bangkok, the capital city of Thailand from November 02 to 07.

He defeated third seed Phukit Chantarangsee of Thailand in straight 20-11, 20-11 sets in the final on Tuesday to clinch the title.

Geto had earlier defeated top-seeded players Kritin Phutthawilai of Thailand and Yi Kang Liu of Malaysia in the quarterfinal and semifinal, respectively, to secure his spot in the championship’s grand final.

He is one of several badminton players in Itanagar who are currently receiving training from an Indonesian coach.

Seven-year-old Sora is the son of Marpe Sora(Father) and mother Peken Sora (Mother) of Lower Siang district.

Geto, who draws inspiration from Danish shuttler Anders Antonsen and Indian shuttle ace Lakshya Sen, began playing badminton at the age of four.

In 2019, he took part in his first state-level event, the Dorjee Khandu Memorial State Badminton Championship, where he was able to claim the title of “most promising player.”

In addition, Geto also won a gold at the PNB MetLife Junior Badminton Championship in Guwahati, Assam in 2020.
