Meghalaya cabinet passes ordinance. In October, the government had announced the repeal of the Meghalaya Regulation of Gaming Act, 2021.

Amid stiff opposition, the Meghalaya cabinet has passed an ordinance to repeal the Meghalaya Regulation of Gaming Act 2021.

This was decided in the crucial Meghalaya cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister Conrad Sangma. The Meghalaya chief minister in this regard said that the ordinance will be put up in the next sitting of the Assembly, after necessary discussion with the Speaker.

Earlier, in October this year the government had announced the repeal of the Meghalaya Regulation of Gaming Act, 2021.

The state government had, in March, issued licences to set up three casinos leading to widespread protests.
