Family members blame East Kameng district administration for 'botched up' search & rescue ops. Rights activist Sol Dodum slams govt.
Family members of mountaineer and state’s first Everester Tapi Mra are holding a protest in Itanagar demanding justice since Sunday.
The family members are alleging that the first round of search and rescue operations were ‘botched up’ and that the East Kameng district administration is responsible for this.
Family members affirmed that they will continue with their sit in demonstration until the Pema Khandu government takes appropriate action.
Activist Sol Dodum who also joined the protest, alleged that the Arunachal Pradesh government has failed in taking a pro-active role in addressing the issue.
Dodum questioned the role of East Kameng Deputy Commissioner for calling off the search and rescue operations after the team had reached the Base Camp 2.

Dodum alleged, it is false that 5 choppers were pressed into service for locating Tapi Mra and his co-mountaineer. Rights activist Sol Dodum also alleged that time was not properly utilized during the search and rescue operations.
Earlier, Tapi Mra’s sister Yatok Mra had alleged that despite repeated requests and appeals, the East Kameng DC refused to allow mountaineer Tagit Sorang, a family friend and close associate of Tapi Mra, to join the first phase of rescue operations.
Mountaineers Tapi Mra and Niku Dao were reported missing in mid-August after they had embarked on scaling Mount Kyarisatam, the state’s highest mountain peak.
