Section 144 imposed in Shillong. Meghalaya CM Conrad Sangma breaks his silence; assures of stern action against those guilty.
Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad Sangma has finally broken his silence on the incidents of multiple attacks on innocent people during the rally organised by the Federation of Khasi Jaintia and Garo People (FKJGP).
Chief Minister Sangma informed that 1 person has been arrested and 3 FIRs have already been lodged in connection with the case. The Meghalaya Chief Minister also informed that large number of miscreants who were purportedly part of the rally have been identified. Chief Minister Conrad Sangma assured that stern action will be taken against the perpetrators.
When asked if there was an intelligence failure, Chief Minister Conrad Sangma said when organisations seek permission for holding rallies or meetings, there is a sense of trust on them that everything will pass off smoothly without triggering any law and order situation.
The Chief Minister maintained that some situations really come out as surprise, as he said that only a few out of the 1500 FKJGP supporters had resorted to violence during the rally. According to Chief Minister Conrad Sangma, terming such an incident to be an outcome of the failure of intelligence is nothing but an individual’s personal point of view.
However, Meghalaya CM Conrad Sangma said that his government will be more stringent in the future to avert such kind of incidents and ensure that adequate steps are taken to deal with such unpredictable situations.
Meanwhile, the Meghalaya government has imposed Section 144 in the Shillong city.
