YMA urges govt to set up relief camps for Myanmar refugees

The Young Mizo Association has urged the Mizoram government to establish comprehensive relief camps for the Myanmar refugees taking shelter in the state.

A general conference of the YMA also discussed on the issue of humanitarian crisis being faced by the state as over 30000 people from Myanmar have already crossed over to the Indian side to take refuge.

Delegates taking part in the general conference also agreed on the fact that all the refugees should be profiled, issued identity cards and lodged in the relief camps established by the state government.

Northeastern Champhai district hosts the largest number of 9,488 refugees, followed by southernmost Siaha district at 7,247.

Of the 30,374 Myanmar refugees, 13,210 people have been lodged in 160 relief camps, while 17,146 refugees are staying with their relatives and friends or in rented houses.
