An unverified text message is in circulation in Arunachal Pradesh’s Longding district, apparently sent by the NSCN-K (Y-A) claiming to it be involved in the killing Atar Singh Sharma.
B. Lukham, President of Longding Market Welfare Association has informed this to Northeast Live.
However, what has been confirmed yet again is the fact that suspected rebels of different factions of the NSCN have been carrying out rampant extortion in the district.
Lukham said that this has been the state of affairs since 2018-19 as traders have to pay illegal taxes to the rebel groups. The LMWA president added that the presence of different factions of the NSCN are active in Longding for which it has become quite difficult for the traders to pay heed to the demands. However, he informed that there is no set limit for the amount of money to be paid.
But, B. Lukham said that the traders have to pay a total amount of upto Rs 10 lakh annually, since several factions of the rebel group are active in Longding.
Meanwhile, the police had so far interrogated 7 to 8 persons in connection with the case. 4 persons including a police constable have been arrested in connection with the case.
Earlier on October 9, suspected NSCN (K-YA) militants shot dead the trader.
