Mizoram: Heroin worth over Rs 71 crore seized

First Published: 17th October, 2022 19:21 IST

Contraband especially high grade heroin worth over Rs 71 crore has been seized by the police in last 15 days only in Champhai district.

It is indeed a big catch for the Mizoram Police, with over 8.7 kg of heroin being seized in multiple anti-narcotics operations in the past 15 days. The market value of the contraband in the international market is over Rs 71 crore.

However, what seems to be the cause of concern is the fact that Champhai district bordering Myanmar has become the transit point of drugs smuggling. The above mentioned seizure has been made only in Champhai district.

The biggest haul ever in the state was made on Thursday near Tuipui village in Champhai district when 6.83 kg of heroin was seized by the Police. The international market price of the consignment was estimated at Rs 34.18 crore.

The state police officials also had seized 140 exotic animals, reportedly smuggled from Myanmar.
