Manipur Govt’s crackdown on illegal migrants soon

The Manipur government is all set to intensify the crackdown on illegal migrants. Sending out a strong message, Chief Minister N Biren Singh announced that his government will soon launch house to house survey with this purpose.

Chief Minister N. Biren said that once the State Population is constituted the entire for detecting illegal migrants would begin.

The Chief Minister while making the announcement, expressed serious concerns as he referred to incident where a Bangladeshi identified as Md. Anwar Hussain, by impersonating as a local since 1990 went unnoticed, until recently when he was arrested.

In fact, the Bangladeshi national who was staying illegally had already started obtaining driving license as well as Aadhaar card from the authorities concerned.

N Biren Singh assured that his government will ensure that actions are being taken against government officials involved in issuing driving licenses and Aadhaar cards illegally.

He cautioned that actions will be taken under the provisions of the Foreigners’ Act and ILPS against the people sheltering the illegal immigrants and migrants.

The announcement of the Chief Minister comes in the wake of over 600 non-locals and foreigners being arrested without valid documents and ILP in the last few days.
