The Big Ben owned by Salvation Army Temple Corps will be silent from 10 PM-6AM. Will the govt revoke it's order?
Strange but true. The ‘Big Ben’ that stands tall in Mizoram capital Aizawl has fallen silent. But why has the Big Ben fallen silent after chiming for 29 years? The development comes after an anonymous individual filed a complaint of noise pollution.
In a notice by the Mizoram Home department, the Salvation Army Temple Corps authorities has been directed to silence the clock from 10:00pm to 6:00 am.
The notice cited a Supreme Court ruling and Noise Pollution (Regulation and Control Rules) 2000 that “prohibited noise” during the said hours.
As per inputs, the clock located in the center of Aizawl city called Temple Square, has been stopped following the notice. However, the Salvation Army Temple Corps authorities have urged upon state Home Commissioner to revoke the order.
The clock was installed in 1993 and is owned by the Salvation Army, which is one of the biggest Christian denominations in Mizoram.
