With no reassurances from the government of Manipur regarding the demand for the inclusion of the indigenous Meitei community in the ST list of India, the Scheduled Tribe Demand Committee

With no reassurances from the government of Manipur regarding the demand for the inclusion of the indigenous Meitei community in the ST list of India, the Scheduled Tribe Demand Committee of Manipur, or the STDCM, will be holding a mega public convention on the 13th of October to decide on their future course of action.

The STDCM has been protesting for the past 40 days. The STDCM, along with women vendors of Pishumthong, Keithel Macha, staged a sit-in at Pishumthong in Imphal, today.

Speaking to Northeast Live, STDCM working president L. Lokendra informed that the convention will decide the future course of action as the democratic forms of agitation have not been honoured by the government.

Reacting to a statement by the Chief Minister that he had discussed the demand with cabinet colleagues, he demanded that the Chief Minister and the government be proactive so that there are visible results instead of repeatedly claiming that they are considering or discussing it.

He drew the attention of the government to send the necessary documents and recommendations to the Centre at the earliest.
