Laitumkhrah, located in the heart of Shillong city, stands to benefit from the much hyped Shillong Smart City project once the Government approves for the same.

Speaking on the Smart City projects in Laitumkhrah, local MLA, Ampareen Lyngdoh, said the project is important for urban constituencies as they do not get schemes like MGNREGA, job cards and others. Lyngdoh informed she has submitted proposals to the PWD to attend to the length and breadth of the roads in her constituency to ensure that pedestrians get a safe walking space.

In addition, the government has also agreed to sanction the continuation of tiling of pavements from Loreto Gate, all the way to Don Bosco, Beat House, Fire Brigade, and all the way to St. Edmunds Gate, and the works are expected to begin after Durga Puja celebrations, Lyngdoh added. 

Furthermore, the MLA informed another proposal to cover the drains at Veronica Lane, which houses two institutions that look after PWD, has also been approved and the road would even have ramps, making it friendly for persons with disabilities.
