The state police have submitted a detailed report on the alleged vehicle scam to the Home Department.

Speaking on the matter, Meghalaya DGP LR Bishnoi confirmed that the police have submitted the report to the home department and they have been asked to submit a list of documents and witnesses, among others. 

A call on the departmental procedure will be taken by the government post the submission of documents, Bishnoi added.

It may be mentioned that the charges in the preliminary inquiry which were leaked in the media are wide-ranging from unofficial procurement and non-registration of vehicles, discrepancies in documents, questionable allotment, and purchase of cheaper models against sanction of expensive variants.

Moreover, DGP LR Bishnoi informed that the State Police has raised the bar in its war against drugs in Meghalaya. 

Bishnoi said the department is concentrating on their strategies. Some are on awareness against drug abuse as well as strengthening the enforcement drive against drug traffickers. 

The DGP informed that in the last two days in East Khasi Hills, police have recovered heroin to the tune of 400 grams, two motorbikes and one four-wheeler, and cash to the tune of Rs. 5.5 lakhs. And in the last four months, Meghalaya police have recovered drugs and contraband worth over Rs. 18 crore. 

Along with the drugs, the police have recovered 31 vehicles, 90 mobile phones, and a few arms and ammunition. The total cash recovered in the last four months is Rs. 24.22 lakh, the DGP added.
