In a big push to resolve the inter-state border issue between Assam and Arunachal Pradesh, a crucial inspection visit was undertaken yesterday by Assam cabinet minister Atul Bora in Changlang district of Arunachal Pradesh.

The Assam delegation led by Atul Bora visited Ranginkan village in Changlang which is one of the areas of difference and also chaired a public meeting.

The Regional Committee visited the area for the first time since the signing of the Namsai Declaration between chief ministers of both states a few weeks ago.

Assam minister Atul Bora addressing the gathering assured that the Government has decided to solve the border dispute with proper dialogue between the two states.

The minister said that discussions with the representatives of the people are crucial in achieving a peaceful consensus.

He also added that the two states have always maintained brotherhood and harmony and the same cannot be compromised under any condition.

Meanwhile representatives of the border villages also voiced their concerns during the meeting. Together with the village representatives, a roadmap was also prepared on the future course of action.

The joint meeting was also attended Deputy Speaker of Arunachal assembly Tesam Pongte, Assam MLA Bhaskar Sharma, Arunachal MLAs Phoshum Khimhun and Laisam Simai, Tinsukia guardian secretary Anant Lal Gyani, Tinsukia DC Narsing Pawar, Changlang DC Arjun Mohan besides other officials.

It may be mentioned here that Assam’s Tinsukia district shares a long boundary with Arunachal Pradesh and there are 36 villages under Margherita Sub-Division that are along the Assam-Arunachal Border out of which 6 villages fall under areas of difference.
