First Published: 3rd September, 2022 18:11 IST

Meanwhile the MET department had predicted heavy rains in East Kameng district till September 5.

The search continues for Arunachal’s missing mountaineer duo Tapi Mra and his assistant Niku Dao who went missing after setting out on an official expedition in Arunachal’s East Kameng district.

As per East Kameng DC Pravimal Abhishek Polumatla, despite inclement weather conditions the ground search team launched by the district administration has reached its first destination in Langchu village.

The 34-member team which consists of personnel from the 11 Para Special Forces and mountaineers were dropped off by their respective vehicles on Thursday evening at Veo, which is the last road point.

Since there were some technical issues the 34 member team was divided into two groups – A and B. Group A consists of 18 persons and Group B consists of 16 persons.

On Friday, members of Group A braving all odds which include a hostile geographical terrain and bad weather conditions reached Langchu from Veo on foot and today Group B is likely to reach Langchu by late evening.

It may be mentioned that under normal conditions it takes around 6 hours to reach Langchu from Veo, but due to the adverse circumstances it took the team more than 8 hours to cover the same distance.

Till the weather clears up for the choppers to carry out aerial search and rescue operations the ground teams will continue to move ahead.

Meanwhile the MET department had predicted heavy rains in East Kameng district till September 5.

The services of 15 porters have been requisitioned by the administration from nearby villages for providing logistical support to the team, the DC informed.
