Manipur: ATSUM asks state Guv to withdraw District Council Bill

All Tribal Student Union Manipur, in a press communiqué has asked the state Governor to withdraw the recent District Council bill passed in the state assembly.

In a big development from Manipur relating to the ongoing demand for the implementation of HAC recommended ADC Bill Manipur 2021, the All Tribal Student Union Manipur (ATSUM), in a press communiqué has asked the state Governor to withdraw the recent District Council bill passed in the state assembly.

While reaffirming the pledge taken during the 2nd General Assembly of the ATSUM on July 15, 2022, at Haipi Village, the student body along with its federating unit submitted a memorandum to the Governor of Manipur yesterday.

The memorandum containing 11 pages submitted to the state Governor pertinent to two matters included “Immediate withdrawal of the Manipur (Hill Areas) District Council (Sixth Amendment) Bill, 2022 (which has now become an act) referring to it as “Not” a Money Bill.

The memorandum also seeks the favor of the Governor to convene a special session of the Manipur Legislative Assembly to table and discuss “The Manipur (Hill Areas) Autonomous District Council, 2021.
