Tripura pushes for e-procurement in public sector

Tripura government’s finance department on Wednesday organised a workshop at Agartala Town Hall to popularise and encouraged procurement and purchase in the government sector through the digital platform Government e-Market or GeM besides creating awareness regarding its new functionaries.

Deputy chief minister Jishnu Dev Varma inaugurated the workshop in presence of finance secretary Brijesh Pandey and other senior officials.

The workshop focused on creating awareness among government officers dealing with purchases and procedures besides encouraging them to use the digital platform for bringing transparency to the system.

Addressing the gathering Dev Varma, said that as per the instruction of Prime Minister Narendra Modi the Tripura government is encouraging government officials to procure through the digital platform GeM for transparency in the system and which also help during the audit.

He also requested the finance department to create awareness through such workshops and encourage local entrepreneurs, traders, SHGs, and producers of various items like handicrafts and handlooms also get themself registered in GeM and for massive marketing of their products across the globe.

He further said that it is the responsibility of the government to popularise GeM in the state as it is the future market.

At present there are some 540 registered entrepreneurs with GeM in the state and the state government should try to double the number by the end of the year.
