Assam workers’ ordeal in Arunachal: sub-contractor arrested

The confirmation about Ali’s arrest was given by Koloriang police station Officer in Charge Gejum Basar.

Arunachal Pradesh Police yesterday arrested sub-contractor Roham Ali who has been accused of fleeing with money meant for the 19 laborers working for a BRO project in the frontier state’s Kurung Kumey district.

Roham Ali was arrested from Pasighat in the East Siang district. The confirmation about Ali’s arrest was given by Koloriang police station Officer in Charge Gejum Basar.

The OC said that Ali was arrested from a location in Pasighat town by a police team from Koloriang police station who were assisted by East Siang police.

Ali is being bought to Koloriang and will be produced before the magistrate in Koloriang today. Police are also looking for some more people in the case and more arrests are likely very soon,

Meanwhile, there is no trace of the 3 remaining workers even as the search operation continues. Of the 19, ten have been rescued and six had been confirmed dead.

Roham Ali is accused of siphoning off the money meant for the worker’s wages, as stated by the rescued workers before the media.
