Two hardcore ULFA(I) militants and two NSCN(R) militants have been apprehended in two separate operations by security forces in Arunachal Pradesh on Monday.

Based on specific inputs on the presence of armed militants in Lekhapani area of Changlang district, the security forces launched an operation and apprehended two hardcore ULFA-Independent militants.

The apprehended militants have been identified as Anil Kanikar also known as Dahotia and Pramod Barua. Post spot interrogation the militants admitted allegiance to the banned organization and to having been involved in extortion activities in the area.

In a similar intelligence based operation launched in Ngeichang area of Changlang district, security forces apprehended two active militants of NSCN-R. The arrested militants have been identified as Nongman Jugli and Sampan Harap. The cadres were found in possession of weapons, ammunition and other incriminating documents.

Security Forces has been carrying out unabated operations in South Arunachal Pradesh along the Assam-Arunachal Pradesh border. Extortion activities along the Assam-Arunachal Pradesh border has been on the rise with insurgent outfits like the ULFA-Independent and various factions of the NSCN carrying out extortion activities in the region.
